'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the thrilling final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from distance, and the defender promptly converted the loose ball before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory sealed an extraordinary recovery given the team had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after they changed shape. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they understand how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's sole appearance for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. His teammate is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
